ICE and Public Service Company Reach Agreement to Operate Fiber Network

LaRepublica.net reports on an alliance between the Instituto Costarricense de Electricidad (ICE) and the Empresa de Servicios Públicos de Heredia to create a company dedicated to developing and operating a fiber optic network.

This network would use the existing of poles owned by both companies, something ICE has denied for other companies who wanted to develop their own networks.

The alliance will help fill the need for the existence of a fiber optic network to reach into homes and to sell internet connectivity services in a neutral way, ie to any other operator who requires it.

 

The starting point of the new network would be Heredia, with the idea of connectivity to the free zones of the province and spread to some areas of Alajuela covers areas where ICE serves.
